8A - Solving the Problem

The product that I’ve decided fits my opportunity is a fiber-based bandage that mimics the formation of scabs. The fibers would be made of bio-materials that aid in scab formation and quicken healing. These bandages would be available to both drug-store consumers and hospitals. For hospitals, the fibers would be available in the pure-fibrous form so that they can be directly applied to burns and wounds. This could mimic the creation of a fiber-glass board that is flexible.             Current research done in the area includes the application of currents and how platelets build scabs. Specifically, the fibers if enhanced with an additive of anti-bacterial cream could prevent infection and aid in healing. Fiber based healing bandages: ·       Opportunity: o    Bandages available within hospitals and drugs stores help prevent infection, but not always effectively. Bandages/gauze with fiber-based properties to attach to skin and mimic the building up of platelets to form a scab. o    The who: Hospitals in the US and consumers of drug store bandages o    The what: Bandages provided lack in healing support and protection from infection. o    The why: Bandages do not provide a support for the rebuilding of skin.
